We invite you to make the choice to use our seven ways to engage in Red Ribbon Week and encourage prevention. A cornerstone of the NMAAM campaign is the Dose of Prevention Challenge, an initiative designed to challenge coalitions to get medicine misuse on the radar screens of parents and others by holding an educational event or activity in their communities. CADCA urges coalitions to help raise awareness about the dangers of prescription and over-the-counter medicine misuse by taking part in NMAAM.

Presecription medications are commpnly prescribed after an injury or surgery, or for intense pain. They are extremely habit forming and as many as 25% of patients using prescribtion drugs long-term struggle with addiction. Preventing substance abuse is far easier than treating an existing addiction – not to mention more cost-effective.

October was first declared as National Substance Abuse Prevention Month in 2011. National Recovery Month 2022

OPERATION PREVENTIONis a free, self-guided virtual educational series designed to prevent opioid misuse for children and youth. During this series youth will discover what medication is, how it works, and when it’s needed. They will learn about the brain and body on opioids, what opioids are, and the opioid epidemic’s impact. Coalitions across Kansas are working together to address the prevention needs and concerns of their communities including substance misuse, suicide prevention and problem gambling. Did you know that one in four young adults has misused a prescription drug and that one in 37 youth, ages 12 through 17, has misused cough medicine to get high from its dextromethorphan ingredient?

Engaging Adolescents in Treatment (Tips for Mental Health Professionals)

As the Medical Director, Mark works with the staff to coordinate the appropriate level of care for each individual client.
